The war has ended. Athalea, our nation, lost but survived. We went from the new nation everyone ignored, to the surprising new global power, to the militaristic empire that will conquer the world, finally, to the defeated lion licking its wounds. Four groups now fight for control over Athalea: The Golden Eagle, The Crown Guard, The Ravens, and The Red Sun. The Crown Guard started the war and now blame the Ravens for our defeat, while the Eagles and the Suns kill each other in the streets of Emberglow. I just came back from the southern front a few days ago. I’m happy to reunite with Olivier, my best friend, and with mom. His family, same as mine, supported the Ravens. But, after the death of his brother on the battlefield and the Ravens’ leader being the one that signed our surrender, he cannot support those he sees as traitors.
- “We used to be respected, you know? Us real Athaleans, I mean,” he said with a nostalgia in the tone of his voice.
- “I am just afraid of how much extra blood may need to be spilled before we stop building walls between ourselves,” I answered.
- “Building and maintaining a great nation will always have a cost,” he said.
(((I need to include characters in this (especially for the Eagles!). Leader of each party. Some important members.))))
- The war ends - Soldiers return home - The Guards blamed the Ravens for the defeat - Other nations impose sanctions on Athalea.
- The Red Suns tried to take power with riots, but the Ravens (the government in power at the time) violently cracked down on them, killing hundreds in Athalea (Apolonia was part of this massacre). Suns killing Eagles in the street fills the news.
- The Raven president is murdered weeks before he stepped down; the Suns are blamed.
- In the elections, the Guards got the support of the Eagles and even many Ravens in order to strip the Suns from all of their political power; everyone’s scared that they may get enough support from the unemployed and Luns to take power.
- As the ruling party, the Guards started imposing restrictions on protests and strikes in order to ‘keep the order and peace’, while the Eagles murdered Ravens and Suns in the streets and even assassinated some of their leaders.
- The Guards saw the Eagles as crazy radicals they could use to eliminate and terrorize their political enemies without having to get their own hands dirty.
- But the actions of the Eagles in addition to their masterful use of propaganda, gave them more power by the day.
- The [insert important government building or monument] was destroyed by a riot and it was blamed on Suns and the Ravens (especially by the Eagles). The government took almost all of the power they had left using this as an excuse.
- When media not controlled by the government started publishing stories about the lack of evidence for the accusations towards the Ravens and Suns on the destruction of the [insert important government building or monument] or alternative explanations of what happened, the government stormed many of their offices and closed the free media with the excuse of unveiling and rooting out foreign nation’s infiltration.
- At one point, not even the Guards were able to stop the Eagles from taking complete control over Athalea.
- With most of the media controlled by the Eagles, conspiracies around the Suns, the Ravens and Luns trying to destroy Athalea and its culture went rampant.
- The hate and the fear increased in Athalea’s population. It was hard to know what was real and what was fabricated.
- Secretly, the Eagles’ government organized groups to murder those who helped them arrive to power, but still had a mind of their own (many Guards, Ravens and members of the army).
- The Eagles blamed the murders on a conspiracy from Luns and Suns, justifying even more repression and limiting Athalea’s democracy.
- Secretly, the Eagles organized paramilitary groups to destroy Luns’ properties and murder many in order to justify isolating them with the excuse of ‘protecting them from aggressors'. Then, they were systematically murdered.
